The Global Accelerator offers sustainable and integrated solutions to tackle multiple crises and create a virtuous cycle of sustainable development where combined investments in social protection and decent job creation generate high economic and social returns and facilitate the transition to a resilient, sustainable, and inclusive economy.

The Global Accelerator includes three mutually supportive areas of work:

• Pillar 1: in-country development of integrated and coordinated employment and social protection policies and strategies that facilitate just transitions;
• Pillar 2: establishment of national financing frameworks and the mobilization of public and private domestic and international resources to invest in universal social protection and inclusive, environment- and gender-responsive employment interventions; and
• Pillar 3: improvement of multilateral cooperation on jobs and social protection for just transitions, including with International Financial Institutions (IFIs) to provide more coordinated support for countries.

Implementation of the Global Accelerator started in September 2022 based on an implementation strategy, which was co-created by 12 UN agencies and EOSG. If successfully implemented and funded the Global Accelerator has the potential to support countries in overcoming coverage and financing gaps for universal social protection, closing other decent work deficits in particular for those working in the informal and rural economy, ensuring that public and private investments – notably in the green, care and digital economy - create quality jobs with social protection, protecting communities against the effect of climate change and other covariate risks while facilitating just transitions for all
